Quick poll.

If I've taken an extra class this Fall specifically so that I can put the money aside to travel in January, need I feel guilty for refusing to give up that trip if other expenses arise?

Why or why not?

Hmmm...depends on the other expenses. I find I'm no good with saving large chunks of money like that, but I can save if I do a payment plan (like a bill) to my savings account. I put in $50 each pay check, and then when it's enough for us to do vacation or something, we use it.

Whenever I come into big sums of money (say, my summer teaching stipend), things happen randomly (say, like car accidents) that seem to take most of the money no matter what my plan for it was. :)

Oh, I'm horrible at saving. However, I've set up the pay from this one class to go directly to my savings account... plus I transfer in $40/week for not smoking, still.

I always think, though, "you should pay off that last credit card" or "you should save that money for Spring semester and work less."

Le sigh.
