Anyone been to Rome?

Am trying to decide between one of these hostels or this B&B. In the hostels we'd have a private (en-suite) room, and that B&B is much cheaper than the price at TripAdvisor.

Oh, or this one.

I know nothing about where to stay in Rome. Nothing. Mostly I've heard people say "near the Spanish Steps is good," but... how near? Which way?

When I went, I stayed closer to the Vatican and that was nice. It was withing easy walking distance of everything I wanted to see and the neighborhood was very nice. Sorry I can't be of more help!!

Oh, no, that helps! If "closer to Vatican" works, the B&B's are slightly cheaper.

The Spanish Steps area from what I remember was a bit seedier -- more local stuff there, but it's also hit or miss given the streets. The center part near the Vatican is nearly all touristy, so in terms of a place to stay, it's fairly safe. We still went off the beaten path to find local restaurants and such, but I like to gamble less with the sleeping accommodations...if that makes sense!
